Introduction

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of the Summer 2024 ICS Planning and Dissemination Grants which include the following funding pool sponsored by the Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging Research Initiative The Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging (BHCIA) Research Initiative is a major initiative, led by the CIHR Institute of Aging. Aiming to help deliver on the research and innovation pillar of the National Dementia Strategy (2019), the development of the BHCIA Research Initiative highlighted the need to identify the scope of current activities and interest in brain health and dementia research in Canada and identify research gaps.

Overview

The BHCIA Research Initiative will sponsor one grant focused on planning activities, for the successful applicant to conduct an environmental scan mapping out the Canadian dementia research landscape, including a synthesis on what research has been funded, highlighting what evidence is available, and identifying research and innovation gaps. To achieve the objectives of this FO, applicants must collaborate with at least one non-profit organization with links to dementia research and innovation (e.g., the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Azrieli Foundation and Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence, Brain Canada, Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation, Ontario Brain Institute, Women’s Brain Health Initiative, Healthcare Excellence Canada, etc.).
