Reframing Aging, Empowering Older Adults: CIHR-IA’s Strategic Plan 2023-2028

Transcript

Every Canadian deserves a healthy experience of aging and care that meets them where they are. Across the country, Canada’s research on the aging community is helping to make that happen. The CIHR Institute of Aging is one of 13 institutes that makes up the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. We’re on a mission to advance training, research and knowledge to maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of all Canadians as they age. Informed by many voices across our community, our Strategic Plan lays out a path to foster research that will achieve equitable health outcomes and enable healthy aging for all older Canadians. We’re focused on:

  • Implementing prevention strategies and promoting health and wellbeing in aging
  • Adapting health and care systems to better address the needs of older adults
  • And improving lived and living experiences and quality of care in the later years
Our cross-cutting priorities shape all aspects of our activities and engagement with our research on aging community. They promote equity, inclusiveness and diversity of input to strengthen the research on aging community in Canada, with the goal of leading to improved health outcomes for older Canadians. It’s time to reframe what it means to age. We are refocussing on the value of lived experiences and repositioning health care and supports to empower older adults to live vibrant, healthy lives at every stage.
